The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has inaugurated a seven-member Investigation Committee to probe allegations of unethical medical practices—commonly referred to as medical kalabule—at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Ridge.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Health, the committee was established to promote accountability and strengthen ethical standards within Ghana’s healthcare system.

The committee is chaired by Alhaji Dr. (Pharm) Inua Yusuf, Esq., who serves as Head and Director of Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Health. Its membership includes representatives from teaching hospitals, professional bodies, regulatory institutions and civil society organisations.

The committee’s mandate is to conduct a comprehensive and independent inquiry into the reported incidents at both facilities, as well as to assess the effectiveness of existing governance, oversight and control mechanisms designed to prevent unethical and unauthorised practices.

The committee has been tasked to submit its final report and recommendations to the Ministry of Health by February 10, 2026.

The Ministry has assured the public of its full cooperation with the investigation and reaffirmed its commitment to restoring public confidence and upholding ethical standards in healthcare delivery across the country.
