Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, a distinguished surgeon and former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, has expressed sharp criticism of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), asserting that the current party no longer embodies the values he once recognized.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng stated, “The present NPP is not NPP. It is fake. From what I see now, this is not the NPP I used to know.”

When asked if he still identifies as a member of the party, he responded that he does not associate himself with what he called the “current version” of the NPP.

“Not the fake one. The real one is there. It is a virtual thing. The members are in the background,” he explained.

The former minister also voiced concerns over the party’s internal processes, particularly regarding the election of its last flagbearer. He alleged that the process was riddled with manipulation, bribery, and intimidation of delegates.

“Look at how they elected their last flagbearer—twisting people’s arms, bribing delegates, and intimidating others to get a flagbearer. This is the beginning of corruption. This should not be allowed in any serious institution or party,” he said.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng linked these internal issues to the NPP’s poor performance in the last general elections, noting that the party had not adequately addressed the problems that contributed to its defeat.

“We lost the elections badly and did not deal with the issues that led to the losses. And we still want to go in there? I think it would be a trainwreck if they elect the old flagbearer,” he added.

When asked if his criticism was aimed at the party’s flagbearer, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng clarified his position.

“No, no, no. Bawumia is a very nice person, but being nice alone is not enough to lead Nkrumah’s Ghana,” he said.
