The Gomoa Dawurampong Divisional Police Command has launched a manhunt for nine individuals linked to an alleged assassination attempt on Nana Kwesi Essel Okyea-hene, the Gyasehene of Gomoa Wassa in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region.

Residents reported that the suspects, riding on motorbikes, stormed the community during a family meeting and games session, allegedly intending to kill the chief.

Some principal elders said the attackers were armed and believed the incident is connected to an ongoing chieftaincy dispute in the area. They noted that Nana Kwesi Essel Okyea-hene narrowly escaped death thanks to the timely intervention of four police officers present in the town at the time.

One elder disclosed that preliminary reports suggest the attack may have been orchestrated by the community’s recently destooled Nkosuohene, Tei.

Meanwhile, the Obaatan of Gomoa Wassa, Nana Adwoa Nkum, has called on Inspector General of Police Christiaan Tetteh Yohuno to ensure the swift arrest of those responsible and take measures to restore peace in the community.
