A tragic armed robbery attack on a Metro Mass Transit bus traveling from Bunkpurugu to Tamale in the early hours of Friday, October 10, 2025, has left one passenger dead and three others injured.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:27 a.m. along the Duuklotuk–Nakpanduri highway, when a group of armed men attempted to intercept the moving bus using torchlights in an unlit, isolated area.

Eyewitnesses report that the driver, sensing danger, refused to stop, prompting the attackers to open fire on the vehicle.

“The armed robbers didn’t block the road with any object. They used torchlights to signal the bus to stop, but when the driver didn’t stop, they began shooting at the back of the bus,” one passenger recounted. “The place where it happened was not a community-based location.”

The deceased and the injured were transported to the Faith Community Hospital in Nakpanduri for emergency medical treatment.

Following the attack, several surviving passengers expressed concern about the vulnerability of early-morning bus departures on the Bunkpurugu-Tamale route, warning that such schedules may increase the risk of robbery and ambush in remote areas.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident, and investigations are expected to be launched promptly.
