Flagbearer hopeful and former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called on his fellow New Patriotic Party (NPP) aspirants to direct their political energy toward the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), rather than engaging in internal attacks.

Speaking after submitting his nomination in Accra on Thursday, August 28, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the importance of party unity ahead of the 2026 general election. He questioned the wisdom of internal rivalries, suggesting that aspirants would better serve both the NPP and the country by focusing on holding the NDC government accountable.

“For the various candidates contesting the flagbearership, I ask—won’t Ghana and the NPP be better off if, instead of focusing your guns on Bawumia, you focused on holding the government accountable to show that you can lead the NPP in holding the NDC accountable?” he asked.

He cautioned that infighting only weakens the party’s chances of success, adding, “Our true opponent is not within. Our true opponent is out there. We need unity to win.”

Dr. Bawumia also reaffirmed his commitment to a peaceful and constructive campaign, pledging not to be a source of division. “Just as you have known me to be, I won’t do anything to bring conflict within the party. If there were anyone to create problems within the NPP, it would not be Bawumia.”

Looking ahead, he reiterated his vision for economic transformation, promising to lead with innovative ideas that stimulate growth and provide practical incentives. “My vision is to expand the Ghanaian economy through rich ideas that provide incentives and practical measures,” he concluded.
