Flagbearer aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will today, Friday, October 10, 2025, take part in a balloting exercise to determine their positions on the ballot paper for the party’s presidential primary, scheduled for January 31, 2026.

The National Elections Committee will convene with the five aspirants or their representatives at the NPP headquarters in Accra to conduct the balloting.

Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed on Thursday, October 9, that all aspirants who have complied with the party’s requirements will participate.

“All candidates who have met the guidelines issued on July 29 and complied with them will ballot today. No one will be exempted from any of the party’s rules,” Mr. Mohammed stated.

He stressed that the process is grounded in the party’s constitution and must be respected by all candidates.

“These guidelines are constitutionally based, and any member aspiring to lead the party into the 2028 elections must adhere to them,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Communications Director for Kwabena Agyepong’s campaign team, Paul Abdul Rahman Issah Dowuona, has affirmed that Mr. Agyepong remains committed to the race despite recent debates over a GH₵4 million development fee.

“Mr. Agyepong has been clear — he is, in principle, against the GH₵4 million fee. He made his position known during vetting, stating that while he opposes making it a requirement to contest, he is committed to supporting the party’s development in other ways,” Mr. Dowuona explained.

He noted that Mr. Agyepong has pledged a substantial contribution to the party’s growth, but maintains that such financial obligations should not be a barrier to candidacy.

Currently, five aspirants are vying for the NPP’s presidential slot:

  • Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
  • Kennedy Agyapong
  • Dr. Bryan Acheampong
  • Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum
  • Kwabena Agyepong

The outcome of today’s balloting will determine the order in which these candidates will appear on the ballot paper for the January 2026 primary.
