The Amasaman High Court has reduced the prison sentence of controversial evangelist Nana Agradaa from 15 years of hard labour to 12 months, ruling that the original punishment was excessive.

In its decision, the court upheld Nana Agradaa’s conviction but exercised its discretion to moderate the sentence, stating that while her offence warranted custodial punishment, the severity of the initial 15-year term was disproportionate to the circumstances of the case.

The revised sentence takes effect from July 3, 2025, the date of her conviction, meaning she will serve a total of one year in prison.

The High Court explained that its intervention was necessary to ensure that the punishment imposed aligned with established sentencing principles and the nature of the offence.

Nana Agradaa, a former fetish priestess who later became an evangelist, was convicted earlier this year. Her original sentence generated widespread public debate and legal scrutiny.

The appellate ruling leaves her conviction intact while significantly reducing the length of her custodial sentence, bringing closure to one of the country’s most closely watched court cases in recent months.
