Challenges and Controversies
The election has not been without tension. Several factors influenced the voting process and the subsequent counting period:
- Internet Shutdown: A nationwide network blackout began the night before the polls, which officials cited as a security measure, though critics argue it hampered transparency.
- Technical Delays: Many polling stations reported malfunctions with biometric voter identification kits, leading to significant delays for voters.
- Threats of Protest: Prior to the release of results, Bobi Wine warned of nationwide protests should the election be rigged, citing concerns over the fairness of the process.
