MTN Ghana has held a regional stakeholders’ forum in Wa, bringing together traditional authorities, community leaders, media representatives, partners, and customers to deepen collaboration and enhance transparency in its operations.
The event, part of MTN’s nationwide stakeholder engagement series, served as a platform for discussing the company’s ongoing projects, infrastructure investments, and social impact initiatives, while encouraging feedback from the local community.
Speaking at the forum, Mr. Joseph Dogbe, Chief Risk and Compliance Officer at Scancom PLC (MTN Ghana), reaffirmed the company’s commitment to advancing digital connectivity in the Upper West Region. He emphasized that reliable telecommunications infrastructure is vital for economic development, revealing that MTN has invested more than GH¢1 billion in digital infrastructure across Ghana over the past five years.
“Out of this, GH¢240 million has been allocated for 2025 to expand fibre optic coverage and strengthen 4G networks as we prepare for the rollout of nationwide 5G services,” he stated.
Mr. Dogbe also showcased new technological innovations launched under MTN’s month-long “DigiFest” initiative. These include the MTN DigiFest platform, which highlights digital solutions, and the MoMo Business App, designed to support small and medium enterprises with efficient financial tools. He further announced the introduction of Abena.ai, Ghana’s first multilingual AI voice assistant capable of interacting in major local languages such as Twi, Ewe, Hausa, Ga, Dagbani, and English — enhancing accessibility for users across the country.
On corporate governance, Mr. Dogbe assured stakeholders that MTN continues to uphold high transparency standards, promote gender diversity in leadership, and prioritize data protection to meet international digital compliance standards while addressing local realities.
Madam Efua Falconer, Corporate Communications Manager, reflected on MTN’s 15-year journey in the Upper West Region and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to improving customer experience. She noted that the Wa engagement is one of several forums held across 12 regions, with plans to extend the initiative nationwide to ensure MTN’s services remain responsive to community needs.
The Wa Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Issah Nurah Danwanaa, praised MTN for its contributions to local development but urged the company to address congestion at its customer service centre in Wa. He suggested establishing satellite service points to enhance service delivery.
Local media representatives, particularly from community radio stations, also appealed for stronger collaboration with MTN. They encouraged the company to support local broadcasting initiatives and produce content in indigenous languages to improve communication with rural audiences.
