MTN Ghana has announced reductions in tariffs across all its products and services, following recent changes to the country’s Value Added Tax (VAT) regime.

In a public notice to customers, the telecommunications company said the adjustments are aligned with amendments to the VAT law and take effect immediately. MTN assured subscribers that the reductions apply across all its offerings.

The changes come after the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) implemented reforms under the Value Added Tax Act, 2025 (Act 1151), which came into effect on January 1, 2026. The reforms aim to simplify VAT administration, improve compliance, and ease the tax burden on households and businesses.

Key measures include:

  • A reduction of the VAT rate to 20%
  • The abolition of the COVID-19 Health Recovery Levy
  • An increase in the VAT registration threshold for goods-dealing businesses from GH¢200,000 to GH¢750,000, exempting many small businesses from mandatory registration
  • The re-coupling of the National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL) and Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) levies, allowing businesses to claim input tax credits
  • The abolition of the VAT Flat Rate Scheme to create a more unified system

MTN Ghana said the tariff reductions reflect the impact of these reforms on its pricing and operational costs, and are intended to pass the benefits directly to consumers.

The GRA has urged all VAT-registered taxpayers, employers, importers, exporters, accountants, and tax consultants to familiarise themselves with the new framework and seek guidance through Taxpayer Service Centres or official GRA channels.

MTN advised customers to visit its official website for detailed information on the revised tariffs and reaffirmed its commitment to delivering affordable, value-driven services in line with national fiscal policy changes.
