Lionel Messi’s highly anticipated three-day GOAT India Tour 2025 ran into trouble on Saturday, as his whirlwind visit across four Indian cities sparked chaos and left many fans disappointed.

The Argentina superstar, fresh off Inter Miami’s first MLS Cup win, was joined by teammates Luis Suarez and Rodrigo de Paul for a promotional tour celebrating Messi’s status as the “GOAT” (Greatest of All Time). The tour marked Messi’s first visit to India since 2011 and included stops in Kolkata, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and New Delhi.

Fan frustration and crowd trouble emerged as many struggled to catch a glimpse of the football legend. Reports from Kolkata indicated that large crowds caused delays and logistical issues, leaving fans feeling short-changed.

Ticket pricing varied, with standard stadium access costing 3,500 rupees (£29) in Kolkata and Hyderabad, and 4,200 rupees (£35) in New Delhi—roughly half the average weekly wage in India. However, sold-out events pushed resale prices up, with some fans reportedly paying as much as 12,000 rupees (£99) for entry.

The tour also featured VVIP tickets for a meet-and-greet and photo with Messi, limited to 100 attendees and priced at one million rupees (£8,200).

Despite the logistical challenges, Messi remained the centre of attention throughout the tour, drawing thousands of fans eager to see the global football icon.
