Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United for a British record fee of £125 million, with the total potentially rising to £130 million including add-ons.
Sources close to the deal confirmed to BBC Sport that the Sweden international is set to undergo a medical on Monday, ahead of signing a six-year contract with the Anfield club.
Liverpool had an earlier £110 million bid rejected in August, but negotiations intensified as the transfer window neared its close, ultimately leading to a breakthrough.
Newcastle recently signed Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart, paving the way for Isak’s departure. The 25-year-old has been Liverpool’s top target this summer, and his move is expected to bring an end to one of the window’s biggest transfer sagas.
Isak’s arrival will break Liverpool’s transfer record for the second time this summer. The Reds previously signed German playmaker Florian Wirtz in a deal worth £100 million, with an additional £16 million in performance-related bonuses.
Including the signings of Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Armin Pecsi, and Giovanni Leoni, Liverpool’s total transfer spend this summer now stands at around £416.2 million (excluding add-ons) — the highest single-window expenditure in Premier League history.
This makes Liverpool only the second English club to surpass the £400 million mark in one transfer window, following Chelsea’s £401.2 million spree in 2023.
