Leicester City have dismissed Marti Cifuentes as manager after just six months, following a string of inconsistent results that have left the Foxes in the bottom half of the Championship table.
The 43-year-old Spaniard’s final match in charge was Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to Oxford United, marking Leicester’s 11th loss in 29 league games under his tenure.
Cifuentes was appointed in July with the task of guiding Leicester back to the Premier League after their second relegation from the top flight in three seasons. However, the club currently sits 14th in the Championship, six points adrift of the play-off positions.
Leicester chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha acknowledged the difficulty of the decision but thanked Cifuentes for his commitment.
“This has been a difficult decision and not one I have taken lightly. I would like to thank Marti for the total commitment he has shown during his time at Leicester City. He gave everything to the role and worked tirelessly to help us achieve our targets,” he said.
Cifuentes’ departure makes him Leicester’s sixth permanent manager since Brendan Rodgers, the FA Cup-winning boss, was sacked in April 2023. His tenure was marked by inconsistent performances and results, preventing the team from mounting a serious promotion challenge.
During his spell at King Power Stadium, Cifuentes won 10 of his 29 league games.
