Residents of Afaseibon in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region were left astonished after a woman was found stranded on top of an avocado tree in the early hours of Monday.

According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred around 4:00 a.m., when residents were alerted by unusual sounds resembling the cry of a wild bird coming from the tree. Upon closer inspection, they discovered a woman perched among the branches, reportedly making similar sounds.

The Assembly Member for the area, Emma, said that the situation quickly drew a large crowd, as many residents rushed to the scene out of curiosity and concern.

“Eyewitnesses explained that dogs in the area began gathering under the tree and barking after hearing the sound. This attracted residents, who then realised a woman was trapped on the tree,” he said.

The woman, believed to be in her late 50s, was unable to climb down on her own. Due to fear and uncertainty among residents, the Ghana National Fire Service was called in to assist.

Fire officers successfully rescued the woman using a ladder and rope, as residents were hesitant to approach her. Following the rescue, traditional authorities performed customary rites, including the pouring of libation, before the woman was handed over to the police for further attention.

The circumstances surrounding how the woman ended up on the tree remain unclear, and police are expected to investigate the incident.
