A trailer carrying soya beans has fatally knocked down an okada rider at Suame Maakro in the Ashanti Region, leaving the rider dead on the spot.

The deceased, believed to be about 27 years old, has not yet been formally identified.

Eyewitnesses said the accident occurred when the motorbike rider was travelling alongside the long truck. A metal hook on the trailer reportedly caught the rider, causing him to lose control and fall beneath the vehicle, where he was run over.

The trailer involved in the incident bears registration number GT-1963-13.

Residents in the area have blamed the accident on ongoing road construction, which they say has made the stretch increasingly unsafe for motorists and motorcyclists.

“This is not the first accident here. We have witnessed several crashes along this road. The construction work has made driving difficult, and it keeps causing accidents,” a resident told Adom News. “We are appealing for the work to be completed quickly to avoid more loss of life.”

Police officers arrived promptly at the scene and conveyed the body to the morgue for preservation and identification. Investigations have since been launched to establish the full circumstances surrounding the accident.
