Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has been formally charged with publishing false news by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, February 12, 2026, his lawyer has confirmed.
According to a reliable source, the charge relates to allegations made by his client that an individual paid money to obtain a government-funded scholarship to study abroad.
The arrest follows a directive from President John Dramani Mahama, who instructed the NIB to investigate claims made by Mr. Nkansah regarding alleged irregularities in the awarding of overseas scholarships. These allegations were made during a discussion on Sompa 106.5 FM.
In a statement dated February 3, 2026, and signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama, the Presidency noted that the claims had garnered significant public attention after the Twi-language interview circulated widely across media platforms.
As part of the investigation, NIB officials conducted a search of Mr. Nkansah’s residence on Tuesday before inviting him in to assist with enquiries. The Bureau has not yet issued an official statement as investigations continue.
