Richard Ofori Agyeman, widely known as King Zuba, has been overwhelmingly elected as the new Mayor of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), securing 55 out of 56 votes cast during a session held at the Miklin Hotel in Kumasi.
This resounding endorsement—representing 98.2% of the votes—signals broad confidence in his leadership among assembly members.
A Vote of Confidence
King Zuba’s appointment had been previously announced by President John Dramani Mahama, who cited his distinguished record as the former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi.
His leadership during his tenure in Obuasi, along with his deep-rooted commitment to the Ashanti Kingdom, played a crucial role in garnering both local and regional support.
Ties to Tradition and Vision for the Future
Highly regarded for his allegiance to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, King Zuba enjoys strong backing from the Manhyia Palace and traditional authorities across the Ashanti Region.
His nomination was endorsed by several prominent figures, including the Asantehene’s Saamanhene, Nana Offinsohene, and statesman Dr. Sam Jonah.
