The Ministry of the Interior has directed a comprehensive investigation into allegations that Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng survived two assassination attempts while performing his official duties.

The claims were made by Samuel Appiah Darko, Director of Strategy, Research, and Communications at the Office of the Special Prosecutor, during an appearance on the Newsfile programme in Accra on December 6, 2025. Mr. Appiah Darko further alleged that he had been handcuffed and assaulted by 17 police officers.

In a statement, the Ministry noted that preliminary checks suggest the alleged assassination attempts occurred before 2025 and that no official reports of such threats were filed with the police or any state security agency.

While acknowledging that threats against officials of accountability institutions could undermine national anti-corruption efforts, the Ministry stressed that criminal matters do not expire. It has therefore instructed a full inquiry into both the alleged attempts on Mr. Agyebeng’s life and the reported assault on Mr. Appiah Darko.

The Ministry pledged to update the public on the outcome of the investigations and any actions taken thereafter. It reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and ensuring that all Ghanaians can carry out their lawful duties without fear.
