Immigration Seizes Smuggled Cocoa Beans At Togo Border

Ghana Immigration Service officers, in collaboration with the Ghana Revenue Authority-Customs Division, have intercepted a truck carrying 1,115 gallons of smuggled cocoa beans at the Ave-Havi border post, destined for Togo.

Acting on intelligence, officers stopped the truck, registration number AS 2103-W, driven by Ibrahim Fatawu.

A press release from the Ghana Immigration Service, signed by Assistant Commissioner of Immigration Michael Amoako-Atta, confirmed that the seized cocoa beans have been handed over to COCOBOD officials, while the truck has been impounded and the driver is assisting with investigations.

The Immigration Service issued a strong warning to potential smugglers, emphasizing the detrimental impact of smuggling on Ghana’s economy and government revenue.

They also expressed gratitude to the border community for their cooperation and support in safeguarding Ghana’s borders.
