The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Augustus Nana Kwasi Andrews, has admitted that the party’s regional leadership is facing intense pressure from grassroots members demanding employment opportunities.

Addressing journalists in Kumasi on December 8, Mr. Andrews urged supporters to remain calm despite growing concerns over delays in appointments and job placements.

He praised party members in the region for their crucial contribution to the NDC’s victory in the 2024 general elections, stressing that their efforts would not be forgotten. Although the Ashanti Region has long been considered a stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the NDC recorded notable improvements in both the presidential and parliamentary polls.

More than a year after the election, however, the party’s leadership and government officials are increasingly confronted with demands from supporters seeking jobs—a situation Mr. Andrews described as one of their biggest current challenges.

“During the 2024 campaign, our members worked extremely hard. They sacrificed their energy, money, and resources. Naturally, when you work for someone and they win power, you expect to be compensated. The pressure on me is huge because everyone is demanding an opportunity,” he noted.

He continued, “The grassroots want more, and everyone expects their share. That is why I’m asking our branches to stay calm and trust in H.E. President John Dramani Mahama. We know not everyone will be appointed, but those who do get opportunities must help ensure the benefits extend to others so everyone can enjoy the fruits of their hard work.”

Mr. Andrews reaffirmed the party’s commitment to collaborating with the government to deliver on key promises made to the people of the Ashanti Region. He assured supporters that the NDC is determined to ensure the region does not feel neglected.
