Flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has reminded Ghanaians of his long-standing record of integrity in public service, stressing that leadership should be measured by character and vision, not wealth.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM, monitored by AP Media, the former NPP General Secretary and ex-Press Secretary to President John Agyekum Kufuor said true leadership requires integrity, empathy, and vision—not money.

“Leadership needs someone who has integrity, character, vision, empathy, and not someone who is rich. If wealth alone makes leaders, then Bill Gates would be President of the United States and Aliko Dangote would be President of Nigeria,” he argued.

Agyepong, who served as Press Secretary to President Kufuor for nearly six years, said his tenure remains a testament to his discipline and credibility.

“I served President Kufuor without stain of corruption. Weekly affairs, I was the one doing press briefings, handling the media. If you give me a responsibility, I execute it diligently. I am an achiever,” he emphasized.

He cautioned against the growing culture of public officials flaunting wealth on social media, calling it a betrayal of the essence of public service.

“Public service is about service to the people, not self-indulgence. If I become President and any of my appointees flaunts wealth on social media, I will sack the person the very next day,” he warned.

Agyepong vowed to stand for propriety, discipline, and accountability, promising to leave behind a legacy of integrity if given the mandate.

“I will stand for propriety and fight to leave a legacy. Leadership is not about showing off; it is about serving with humility and vision,” he concluded.

The NPP presidential hopeful said his candidacy is a call to restore trust, discipline, and selfless service in Ghana’s politics, positioning himself as a leader who embodies integrity and accountability.
