Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Presidential Aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), says the party needs a fresh face and new energy to overcome the apathy that cost it dearly in the 2024 elections.

According to him, more than two million NPP members abstained from voting in 2024 due to widespread disillusionment.

He warned that presenting another candidate closely tied to the Akufo-Addo administration would only fuel further anger within the grassroots.

Speaking in a radio/TV interview in Kumasi as part of his tour to canvass support ahead of the NPP’s 2028 flagbearership contest, he said:
“I am the only one out of the five aspirants who has never served in the Akufo-Addo administration. I present a fresh face and a better opportunity for the NPP to capture power again.”

Ing. Agyepong, who supported President Akufo-Addo in 1998, recalled how anyone who dared to criticize the administration was branded an enemy. He stressed that the NPP cannot rise again without embracing honest voices and leaders willing to unite the party.

“If the NPP is to rise again, it needs someone like me. If you are looking for someone who has been neglected and affected by apathy, I am the biggest victim,” he noted.

He also explained his decision to support Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 elections, emphasizing that it was not about personal interest but loyalty to the NPP.

“I am an NPP member. Politics is about service to the party and the country, not blind loyalty to individuals,” he stressed.

Positioning himself as a candidate of renewal and unity, Ing. Agyepong appealed to delegates to rally behind him in his bid for the 2028 flagbearership.

“I am sacrificing myself. Come and support me so we can go and bring power back for the NPP,” he declared.
