Stephen Owusu, a head porter, has been arraigned before the Adabraka District Court for allegedly stealing two mobile phones during a fire outbreak in Darkuman, Accra.
Owusu is accused of snatching the phones from two individuals who were recording the fire at Cable and Wireless, Darkuman, on February 4, 2026. He faces two counts of theft, involving an iPhone 12 valued at GH¢2,900 and a Samsung Galaxy worth GH¢1,200.
The accused pleaded not guilty. He was granted bail of GH¢2,000 with two sureties and is scheduled to reappear in court on February 17, 2026.
Prosecuting officer Chief Inspector Apeweh Achana said the complainants are Bismark Osei, a driver’s mate, and Emmanuel Badu, an auto electrician apprentice.
According to the prosecution, around 5:00 pm on February 4, Owusu approached the scene of the fire under the pretext of helping victims but allegedly grabbed the phones and handed them to an accomplice who escaped.
The complainants raised the alarm, leading police at the scene to arrest Owusu and transfer him to Darkuman Police Station, where a formal complaint was lodged.
Owusu, in his caution statement, admitted to taking Emmanuel Badu’s phone but denied stealing Bismark Osei’s device. He reportedly did not assist the police in recovering the phones from the alleged accomplice.
