Greater Accra and Ashanti Lead as Nationwide Road Crashes Rise in 2025

Provisional data from the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) indicate a 9.3 percent increase in road traffic crashes across Ghana in 2025 compared to 2024.

A total of 14,743 crashes were recorded from January to December 2025, up from 13,489 the previous year.

Greater Accra and Ashanti regions reported the highest numbers, with 4,533 and 4,430 crashes respectively, marking increases of 11.2 percent and 11.1 percent over 2024. Eastern Region also saw a significant rise, with crashes climbing 19.8 percent from 1,832 to 2,195.

Bono East and North East regions experienced the sharpest percentage increases, with crashes rising 40.4 percent and 50 percent respectively. In contrast, Ahafo and Western regions recorded moderate increases of 7.9 percent and 4 percent, while Central and Savannah regions had minimal changes of less than 2 percent.

Several northern regions, however, reported declines. Oti Region recorded 39 crashes in 2025, down from 55 in 2024, a 29.1 percent drop. Northern, Bono, Upper East, and Upper West regions saw reductions ranging from 17 to 27 percent, while Western North and Volta regions experienced smaller decreases of 7.1 percent and 4.3 percent.
