The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has revealed that the government owes road contractors a staggering GH₵21 billion in arrears.

The Minister attributed the mass withdrawal of contractors from project sites to the government’s prolonged failure to pay for completed works, forcing many contractors to borrow money to pre-finance hiprojects.

According to Minister Agbodza, the situation has become unsustainable for contractors, with some unpaid certificates dating back to 2018.

However, he assured that the current administration is taking steps to resolve the issue.

The government plans to settle GH₵4 billion of the GH₵21 billion owed to contractors, enabling them to return to site and resume work.
