The government will soon deploy 5,000 graduates in agriculture and veterinary science to support the national Feed Ghana Programme, Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has announced.
Speaking at the 2025 Asogli Yam Festival in the Volta Region on Sunday, October 5, the Vice President said the initiative is designed to strengthen agricultural productivity by translating research into practical solutions and delivering modern extension services to farmers across the country.
She highlighted the programme’s focus on addressing key agricultural challenges, including erratic rainfall, post-harvest losses, and limited market access.
“The Feed Ghana Programme is being implemented this year with substantial budget allocations to the agriculture sector,” Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said. “This includes support for projects such as the Vegetable Development Project and the well-known Nkokɔ Nkititi poultry initiative.”
She confirmed that 5,000 graduates will be posted nationwide, including in the Volta Region, to work closely with farmers—introducing new farming techniques, offering veterinary support, and helping bridge the gap between research and practice.
To further encourage youth participation in agriculture and veterinary services, the Vice President revealed plans to establish credit facilities and agribusiness training programmes in the region.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also praised the Yam Festival as an important platform for celebrating farming achievements and engaging young people in agriculture.
