The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has revoked 278 small-scale mining licenses across the country for breaching mining regulations and operating with expired permits.

The announcement was made by the Ministry’s Spokesperson and Media Relations Officer, Paa Kwesi Schandorf, in a Facebook post on Thursday, October 23, 2025. The move forms part of the government’s ongoing efforts to restore order and accountability within the small-scale mining sector.

According to Mr. Schandorf, the revocation targeted operators who failed to comply with environmental and safety standards or continued mining after their licenses had expired.

The decision underscores Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah’s commitment to enforcing discipline in the mining industry, following growing national concern over illegal mining (galamsey) and its devastating effects on water bodies and the environment.

This action marks a renewed crackdown on regulatory breaches and aligns with the government’s broader goal of promoting sustainable and environmentally responsible mining practices across Ghana.
