Kumasi, Ghana—Kofi Adu Domfeh, the Ashanti Regional Chairperson of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has underscored that responsible journalism is the driving force behind national development.

Media: The Catalyst for Societal Progress

Speaking at the 6th Congregation and Matriculation Ceremony of the OTEC School of Journalism and Communication Studies, Mr. Domfeh asserted that media acts as a fundamental cornerstone for advancement.

“The media is the catalyst that makes development possible. Where information flows freely and responsibly, societies progress. Where truth is upheld, citizens trust the institutions that serve them. Ethical journalism fosters national growth,” he stated.

He urged journalists to consistently prioritize fact-checking, verification, and public interest reporting, emphasizing that credibility is a journalist’s most indispensable asset.

Prioritizing Journalist Well-being

Mr. Domfeh also brought attention to the often-overlooked necessity for journalists to safeguard their personal safety, mental health, and integrity.

“Responsible media also means responsible journalists—those who prioritize their well-being. You cannot serve society effectively when overwhelmed or burnt out,” he stressed.

Commendation and Challenge to OTEC Students

The GJA Chairperson commended the OTEC School of Journalism and Communication Studies for its commitment to academic excellence and practical training, highlighting the need for robust communication institutions to guide the national agenda.

He specifically challenged the graduating class to serve with courage and integrity, actively shaping the national narrative and positively influencing the country’s future. He encouraged the matriculating students to approach their training with humility, curiosity, and discipline.
