The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a stern warning to heads of Senior High and Technical Schools against the unauthorised registration of students for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), emphasising that violations will result in sanctions consistent with established regulations.

In a press statement issued on January 8, 2026 and signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at GES, the Service said it had observed with concern that some school leaders and officials were illegally registering Form Two students and private candidates for the WASSCE, in some cases in exchange for fees.

The statement clarified that only eligible Form Three students — whose academic progression from Year One to Year Three can be verified in the school’s official records — are permitted to be registered by school authorities. According to GES, no headmaster or school official is authorised to register Form Two pupils or private candidates under any circumstance.

GES described the unlawful practice as misconduct and an abuse of office and warned that any head of school or staff found culpable would face severe sanctions in line with both GES and West African Examinations Council (WAEC) regulations.

The directive aims to uphold the integrity of the examination process and ensure strict compliance with national educational policies ahead of the 2026 WASSCE.
