German President Meets Asantehene, Cuts Sod for €5.6m Green Technologies Centre at KTI

The President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, has paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as part of his three-day state visit to Ghana.

The meeting, which took place yesterday at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, formed part of President Steinmeier’s engagements during his official tour of the Ashanti Region. He was accompanied by senior German government officials and members of the business community.

Among the traditional leaders present were the Juabenhene, Nana Otuo Serebour II, and the Asafohene, Akyamfuor Asafo Boakye Agyemang Bonsu.

Although the discussions were held behind closed doors, sources told the Daily Graphic that the meeting was cordial and productive, focusing on areas of mutual cooperation and development between Ghana and Germany.

Both leaders reportedly reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and exploring partnerships in sectors such as education, renewable energy, and trade.

Business and Development Ties

In a related development, President Steinmeier joined Ghanaian and German business representatives in a roundtable discussion aimed at boosting investment and technology exchange between the two countries.

During his visit, the German leader also cut the sod for the construction of a €5.6 million Green Technologies Training Centre at the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI). The project, jointly funded by Germany and Ghana, seeks to promote sustainable energy solutions and skills development in green technology for Ghanaian youth.

President Steinmeier’s visit underscores Germany’s continued commitment to supporting Ghana’s technical education, renewable energy, and industrial transformation agenda.
