A gas explosion at a home in Oyoko, a suburb of the New Juaben North Municipality in the Eastern Region, has tragically resulted in the death of a young woman and left a boy and another woman with severe burns.
The deceased has been identified as Asante Rose, a Purchasing and Supply student at the Koforidua Technical University. She reportedly died shortly after arriving at the Eastern Regional Hospital.
Sources indicate that a gas leak was detected in the kitchen. When Rose attempted to find the source by lighting a match, the explosion occurred.
Her younger brother and a neighbor were also caught in the blast and were rushed to the hospital alongside Rose.
The Ghana National Fire Service responded to contain the situation and is assisting the police with their investigation.
The management of Koforidua Technical University has been informed of the death of their student.
