Four Dead, 12 Injured in Road Crash Near Yamoransa

A tragic road accident near Wakrom Junction, close to Yamoransa on the Cape Coast–Accra Highwa, has claimed four lives and left 12 others injured, according to emergency response officials.

The incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. on Monday, when a DAF cargo truck with registration AW 9548-13, carrying 700 bags of rice, collided head-on with a Toyota Hiace passenger vehicle registered GC 9728-21.

Emergency Response

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Central Regional Rescue Team arrived at the scene at 2:59 p.m., shortly after the crash was reported. Fire officers were able to extricate five victims who were trapped inside the mangled passenger van.

Four of those rescued were later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, while the fifth remained in critical condition as of Monday evening.

Other Victims and Casualties

Before the GNFS team arrived, nine other passengers had already been transported to the hospital by bystanders and emergency responders. In total, 17 individuals were involved in the crash.

The driver and mate of the DAF truck escaped the accident unharmed.

Traffic Disruption and Safety Advisory

The crash caused significant traffic congestion on the busy highway, as rescue teams and law enforcement worked to clear the wreckage and assist victims.

As of late Monday, rescue efforts were still ongoing, with at least one more victim believed to be trapped in the vehicle.

Authorities have urged motorists to exercise extreme caution when using the Cape Coast–Accra stretch, especially near accident-prone areas such as Wakrom Junction.
