Veteran Ghanaian football coach Annor Walker, former head coach of both Accra Great Olympics and the Black Galaxies, has passed away after a short illness. He died at his residence in Accra on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
Walker’s death has left the Ghanaian football fraternity in mourning, with tributes pouring in for a man celebrated for his tactical brilliance, deep commitment to the game, and mentorship of young players.
A Career of Impact
Over the years, Coach Walker left a lasting mark on several top-tier clubs including Great Olympics, Nania FC, Kpando Hearts of Lions, and Berekum Chelsea. A holder of a CAF License A, he is best remembered for leading Nania FC to a stunning MTN FA Cup triumph in 2011, defeating giants Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium — a defining moment in Ghanaian football history.
Return to Great Olympics
In 2020, Walker made a notable return to Great Olympics as head coach. Despite ongoing health issues, he built one of the club’s most competitive squads in recent years and guided them to strong finishes in the Ghana Premier League, earning widespread admiration for his resilience and leadership.
National Service with the Black Galaxies
Walker also brought his expertise to the national stage, managing the Black Galaxies, Ghana’s team made up of home-based players. He successfully led them to the 2023 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Algeria, further solidifying his legacy in Ghana’s football history.
