Nottingham Forest are in advanced negotiations to appoint Sean Dyche as their new manager.

Dyche has emerged as the leading candidate to succeed Ange Postecoglou, who was dismissed shortly after Forest’s 3-0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday. The club is aiming to finalise Dyche’s appointment by Monday.

Postecoglou’s dismissal came just 17 minutes after the final whistle at Stamford Bridge, marking another turbulent chapter in Forest’s season. The club currently sits 18th in the Premier League table, with just one win from eight matches.

Dyche, who played for Forest’s youth team in the late 1980s, has held positive discussions with the club over the past 24 hours. Sources close to the situation have told BBC Sport that his prospects have significantly improved over the weekend.

While former Italy boss Roberto Mancini has also spoken with Forest officials, and Fulham manager Marco Silva remains highly regarded, both alternatives present complications. Silva, in particular, is under contract and has a substantial release clause — a significant hurdle considering Forest have already incurred costs from parting ways with both Postecoglou and Nuno Espirito Santo this season.

Additionally, there are doubts over whether Silva would be willing to leave Fulham mid-season.

Given these challenges, Dyche is now viewed as the clear front-runner, with Forest’s initial interest in Mancini believed to have cooled.
