The Food and Beverages Association of Ghana (FABAG) has called on the government to extend the recent ban on selected imports through the Aflao border to all land borders nationwide, warning that partial enforcement could undermine the policy.

In a statement, FABAG praised the Government of Ghana and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) for the directive, describing it as timely and necessary to protect local industries and government revenue. However, the Association cautioned that restricting enforcement to one border could lead to diversion of goods through other entry points.

FABAG further demanded a complete ban on the affected products via land routes—both for transit and direct consumption—arguing that limiting the measure to transit goods creates loopholes for smuggling, under-declaration, and unfair competition.

The group said a comprehensive nationwide approach would protect jobs, support domestic manufacturing, boost revenue mobilisation, and strengthen border security. It also urged Customs and other security agencies to collaborate to ensure strict and consistent enforcement across all borders.
