The Ministry of Education has announced the launch of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered subject-specific applications for Senior High Schools (SHSs) across Ghana, aimed at improving the teaching and learning experience under the revised SHS curriculum.

The nationwide initiative is set to benefit over 68,000 teachers and more than 1.4 million students, providing them with digital tools that enhance lesson delivery while upholding Ghana’s cultural and ethical values.

The development of the AI applications was a collaborative effort involving key educational bodies, including the Ghana Education Service (GES), National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), National Teaching Council (NTC), National School Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA), and the Centre for National Distance Learning and Open Schooling (CENDLOS). The design was also supported by Playlab AI, with technical and financial backing from Transforming Teaching, Education and Learning (T-TEL) and the Mastercard Foundation.

In a statement issued on October 1, the Ministry emphasized that the AI apps are built on Ghana’s official curriculum resources—such as teacher guides, learner materials, and national education frameworks that promote gender equality, social inclusion, and national values.

The AI tools are designed to assist teachers in planning lessons, conducting assessments, and delivering content more effectively. For students, the apps offer interactive, personalized learning experiences tailored to their individual needs.

According to the Ministry, the introduction of these AI-powered apps marks a significant step toward bridging educational gaps, strengthening curriculum implementation, and equipping both educators and learners with innovative tools for improved learning outcomes.
