The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is set to bring closure to the protracted Bawku chieftaincy mediation today, Monday, December 1, 2025, with a final pronouncement expected at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
The revered monarch was entrusted with this delicate peace mission by President John Dramani Mahama, following years of deadly conflict in the Bawku area. His direct involvement in the renewed peace process began in April this year, when he convened both feuding factions for intensive dialogue between April 28 and 30.
Although the mediation process experienced a temporary halt, talks resumed on May 13. During these engagements, the Asantehene acknowledged that the discussions had already helped restore a measure of calm to the troubled municipality.
For decades, Bawku has remained a flashpoint of recurring violence, marked by sporadic attacks, loss of lives, and the enforcement of curfews to suppress unrest. The persistent instability has severely disrupted economic activity, fractured communal relations, and remained a major national security concern, hindering development in the area.
According to officials at the Manhyia Palace, today’s sitting officially marks the final phase of the peace-building process.
Stakeholders and residents alike are highly hopeful that the long-awaited decision will finally halt the cycle of violence and open a new chapter of peace, reconciliation, and development for the area.
Expectations are high that the ruling will not only restore lasting calm but also rebuild trust and create the foundation for sustainable progress in the conflict-hit enclave.
