Senior Vice President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil, says it is reasonable for the state to charter a jet for the President if an official aircraft is unavailable.
Speaking in an interview, Mr. Bentil criticized the use of a private jet owned by Ibrahim Mahama by President John Dramani Mahama for official travel. He warned that relying on privately owned aircraft not maintained by the state could expose the presidency to security risks, including potential sabotage or surveillance.
Mr. Bentil argued that official travel should protect the dignity and security of the presidency, adding that cost savings should not come at the expense of national security.
Meanwhile, the presidency says plans are underway to acquire a new state aircraft by November 2026 to strengthen the presidential fleet.
