The Central Region is taking a bold step to support local farmers and boost the school feeding programme.
The Regional Minister, Ekow Okyere Panyin, has launched an initiative to source 100% of meals for the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) from local farmers.
The plan involves cultivating land to supply the programme with locally grown food, creating jobs and increasing household incomes for smallholder farmers.
The goal is to reduce reliance on imported food, support domestic production, and provide healthier meals for kids.
The region’s school enrollment and attendance rates are already high (83.6%), and this move is expected to further increase these numbers.
