New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant Dr. Bryan Acheampong says he is unfazed by any talk of an influential party “establishment” shaping the outcome of the upcoming NPP presidential primaries.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, October 15, Dr. Acheampong emphasized that the real power lies with the party’s delegates — not a select few at the top.
“I have no fears at all about any so-called establishment,” he said. “There is no establishment beyond the entire party structure — the delegates, the constituency executives, the polling station workers. They are the ones who will decide.”
He pointed out that while national executives may be perceived as powerful, they represent only a small portion of the estimated 250,000 delegates expected to vote in the January 31, 2026 primaries.
“National executives are just 17 people. Even constituency executives, who are around 5,000, are still a small fraction of the overall delegate body. One person might have the support of many of them, but that doesn’t determine the final outcome,” he explained.
A Member of Parliament and long-time party member, Dr. Acheampong expressed confidence in the internal democratic process and reiterated his belief that delegates will vote based on merit.
“I’ve been with this party for a long time. I understand how it works. I believe the process will be free and fair,” he said. “I’m running a strong campaign, and I’m confident that only the delegates will determine the outcome — nothing else.”
The NPP is scheduled to elect its flagbearer on January 31, 2026.
