Three people, including two children, have been shot dead in a late-night gun attack at Sakpari, a community in the Binduri District of Ghana’s Upper East Region.
The attack, which occurred around 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 26, 2025, also left George Bukari, the Manager of Maxx Empire FM, a Binduri-based radio station, injured in the hand.
Attack on Family Home
According to local sources, unidentified gunmen invaded the home of Mr. Bukari and opened fire on occupants within the compound.
An eyewitness, Atiga Salam, told Graphic Online that the assailants were hiding in a burnt building near the residence before launching the assault.
“George Bukari had taken two children to the bathhouse and went back to the backyard to pick up his sandals. It was then that the gunmen opened fire, killing his uncle and the two children. A bullet meant for him was blocked by a cow, which was killed instantly, while he sustained a hand injury,” Mr. Salam recounted.
The victims have been identified as an adult male and two children—one about 14 years old and the other around five, the latter being Mr. Bukari’s son.
Witnesses said the attackers were two men on foot, believed to be civilians from a rival community within Binduri. They fled before residents could respond.
Retaliatory Burning of MP’s House
In what appears to be a reprisal attack, a house belonging to Issifu Mahmoud, the Member of Parliament for Binduri, was set ablaze at dawn on Monday.
“We woke up to find the MP’s house on fire. I doubt it was the same people who carried out the shooting—it may have been others acting out of anger,” Mr. Salam said.
No injuries were reported in the arson incident.
Tensions Rise in Binduri
The killings have reignited tensions in Binduri, a district that has experienced sporadic violence in connection with the long-running Bawku conflict.
Residents say the tragedy has sent shockwaves through the community and are calling for increased security presence and swift investigations.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement, but community leaders have appealed for calm and urged security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice.
