Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, a leading contender for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer slot, has pledged to institutionalize annual grassroots engagement across all constituencies if elected President.
The Vice President made the commitment during the first day of his tour of the Bono Region, where he visited the Banda, Tain, and Wenchi constituencies as part of his nationwide outreach to NPP delegates ahead of the party’s presidential primaries.
Addressing party delegates, Dr. Bawumia stated that his vision for leadership includes bringing governance closer to the people through regular, direct interactions with the grassroots.
“If elected President, I will make time each year to engage directly with the party’s grassroots,” he said. “Like former President Kufuor, I will dedicate at least one day annually to town-hall-style meetings at the constituency level.”
He explained that these annual meetings would give ordinary citizens and party members a platform to share their challenges and expectations directly with the President.
“These interactions will allow me to hear your concerns firsthand and respond accordingly. This is how we’ll remain connected—and I will ensure your voices are not only heard, but acted upon,” he added.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized that inclusive and participatory governance is essential for national development and assured delegates of his commitment to maintaining a strong connection with the grassroots.
