The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has called for an investigation into the procurement of cocoa sacks undertaken during the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration led by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Speaking during his Thank You Tour at Ayomso in the Ahafo Region, Mr Asiedu Nketia alleged that substantial public funds were spent on cocoa sacks that have turned out to be unusable, causing financial losses to the state. He claimed the sacks are currently lying idle at the port and cannot be put to use.
According to him, the situation warrants a comprehensive investigation to identify those responsible. He further indicated that preliminary checks suggest some individuals may have personally benefited from the deal at the expense of the state, and called for their arrest and prosecution should wrongdoing be established.
Meanwhile, the Council of State representative for the Ahafo Region, Yaw Okyere, commended Mr Asiedu Nketia for his role in the NDC’s success in the 2024 general elections. He described the party chairman’s strategy, resources, and experience as instrumental in securing the NDC’s historic victory in the region.
