The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched a strengthened security and traffic management operation ahead of the Christmas season.
According to the Command, the initiative is designed to ease the anticipated holiday traffic while intensifying efforts to track down and arrest criminals who may attempt to exploit the festive period. The overarching goal is to ensure a safe, peaceful and incident-free celebration for both residents and visitors.
Speaking on the sidelines of a memorial service held on Wednesday, December 10, in honour of fallen police officers, Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCOP Arthur Osei Akoto called on the public to support the operation by providing timely and credible information that could aid in apprehending offenders.
He also appealed to the media to be measured in its criticism of the police, noting that constructive engagement is essential for preserving peace and security.
Addressing concerns about worsening traffic and rising crime rates in the region, DCOP Akoto said, “Traffic is a worrying trend in the Ashanti Region, especially in Kumasi. We are committed to ensuring it is properly managed.
“As we approach the festive season, robbers often take advantage and harm people, so we have deployed a significant number of officers to protect the town and the region. We urge the public to help us keep the community safe.”
