Violent clashes between residents of Mpatuam and military personnel in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region have resulted in two fatalities, including a local Assembly Member.

According to reports, tensions flared when military officers confronted individuals who were allegedly attempting to trespass into a mining concession owned by Asanko Gold.

Sekyi Michael, Assembly Member for the Mpatuam West Electoral Area, confirmed to Citi News that one person was killed during the initial incident on Monday. The following day, violence erupted again when the military returned, leading to the death of another Assembly Member.
