The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has scheduled Sunday, November 30, and Monday, December 1, 2025, for the final phase of his mediation efforts in the long-standing Bawku chieftaincy conflict.
A statement released by the Manhyia Palace on Monday announced that the two-day meeting will mark a decisive stage in the Asantehene’s ongoing bid to foster reconciliation and lasting peace between the Kusasi and Mamprusi communities.
The statement commended both sides for their cooperation and commitment throughout the mediation process and urged all parties to maintain calm and avoid provocations as discussions approach their conclusion.
“His Majesty praises both sides for their positive approach to the mediation so far and appeals to all concerned to avoid any actions likely to affect the progress toward a lasting solution to the Bawku conflict,” the statement read.
The Asantehene’s involvement in the Bawku peace process began in April 2025, when he hosted representatives of both factions from April 28 to April 30 to reopen dialogue. The talks were briefly suspended but later resumed on May 13, leading to a period of relative calm in the area.
The Bawku municipality has faced recurrent violence and heightened tension in recent months, resulting in casualties, curfews, and widespread disruption of livelihoods. The conflict has strained social ties and attracted national concern over the urgent need for a durable peace agreement.
By setting firm dates for the concluding mediation, the Asantehene has reaffirmed his commitment to guiding both sides toward consensus and restoring stability to the conflict-hit region.
His leadership in the peace process has earned widespread praise from traditional authorities, government officials, and peace advocates, who view his efforts as a symbol of unity, wisdom, and national cohesion in resolving one of Ghana’s most persistent disputes.
