Legal practitioner and Director-General of the National Road Safety Authority, Abraham Amaliba, has raised concerns over the apparent absence of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo’s portrait from the Supreme Court’s gallery of past Chief Justices.

Amaliba claimed that during a recent visit to the Chief Justice’s conference room at the Supreme Court, he noticed Justice Torkornoo’s image was missing from the wall displaying former occupants of the position.

“I was at the Supreme Court in the Chief Justice’s conference room, and I saw all the justices’ pictures on the wall. Her picture was missing,” Amaliba said.
“It gives the impression that she never existed as Chief Justice. That is deeply concerning.”

His comments come amid legal efforts by Justice Torkornoo to challenge her removal from office on September 1, 2025. She was dismissed by President John Mahama following recommendations from a committee led by Justice Gabriel Pwamang. The committee found her guilty of misconduct, including financial irregularities and constitutional breaches.

Since her removal, Justice Torkornoo has filed multiple lawsuits at the High Court, seeking to nullify the findings of the committee and to halt the vetting and appointment of her proposed successor, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie.

In her legal filings, the former Chief Justice argues that the process leading to her dismissal was unconstitutional and procedurally flawed. She is also demanding full payment of her entitlements—such as salary and benefits—up to the date of her removal.

The case is currently pending before the High Court.
