The Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB) has called on the general public to repose confidence in its ability to investigate the Microlight aircraft incident in Tema, stating that it has the necessary capacity to do so.
According to the Bureau, it has noted public comments, particularly on social media, questioning its competence to handle the investigation it has begun and is committed to completing.
The incident occurred on the TMA Daycare premises in Community 1 and involved a microlight aircraft with registration number 9G-ADV.
The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) later confirmed that the aircraft was en route from Ho to Accra. The crash occurred around 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 16.
Two bodies were recovered and transported to the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Speaking at a press briefing, the Acting Commissioner of the AIB, John Mmeb Kuyan Wumborti, stated that the Bureau has all the resources needed to carry out the investigation.
The Bureau has therefore appointed a seasoned investigator, Captain Paul Forjoe, as the lead investigator and highlighted Captain Forjoe’s extensive experience, noting that it makes him well-qualified for the role.
Meanwhile, all academic activities have been suspended at the TMA Daycare following the aircraft crash to allow for investigations.
