Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, has been remanded into police custody and is scheduled to reappear in court on Friday, September 12, 2025.

His arrest was confirmed by the Ghana Police Service on Monday, September 8, citing charges of “offensive conduct conducive to the breach of public peace.” He was taken into custody earlier that day and remains detained pending further proceedings.

While the Police have not provided full details surrounding the circumstances of his arrest, the case has generated widespread public interest due to Abronye’s high-profile political status.

Abronye currently serves as the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and is widely known for his outspoken political views.

His arrest follows a controversial move to file for political asylum in eight countries—including the U.S., U.K., France, Italy, Canada, Spain, Germany, and Côte d’Ivoire—where he claimed he was facing political persecution and threats to his life. He also accused the government of abusing state security agencies for political purposes.

As part of the ongoing investigation, police reportedly searched the residence of former NPP Youth Organiser Moses Abor over the weekend, but Abronye was not located during the operation.

The case is expected to continue on Friday as the court considers the charges and determines the next legal steps.
