The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, on charges of offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the public peace.

In a statement released on Monday, September 8, the Police announced that the outspoken Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was taken into custody earlier in the day and is currently being held.

He is expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days.

While the Police did not disclose specific details regarding the incident that prompted his arrest, it follows a period of intense public scrutiny and political controversy involving Mr. Baffoe.

Recently, Abronye made headlines after submitting asylum applications to eight countries — including the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Canada, Spain, and Côte d’Ivoire — citing political persecution and threats to his life. In his petition, he accused the current administration of using state security agencies for political intimidation.

As part of ongoing investigations reportedly linked to Abronye, police officers also conducted a search at the residence of former NPP Youth Organiser Moses Abor on Sunday. However, Abronye was not located during that operation.

Further updates are expected as the case progresses through the judicial process.
